Gonadal Response

Meaning

Gonadal response refers to the physiological and endocrine reactions of the gonads—the testes in males and the ovaries in females—to regulatory signals, primarily from the pituitary gland, resulting in the synthesis and secretion of sex steroid hormones and the maturation of gametes. A robust gonadal response is critical for maintaining reproductive health, secondary sexual characteristics, bone density, muscle mass, and psychological well-being throughout the lifespan. This response is a cornerstone of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis.
