Gonadal Inertia

Meaning

Gonadal inertia describes a state where the gonads, either testes or ovaries, exhibit a diminished or absent responsiveness to hormonal signals, specifically luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) from the pituitary gland, resulting in inadequate endogenous sex hormone production. This condition signifies a functional resistance within the gonadal tissue itself, preventing it from initiating or maintaining its normal steroidogenic and gametogenic activities despite appropriate stimulation.
