Gonadal Axis Failure

Meaning

Gonadal Axis Failure, often clinically referred to as hypogonadism, signifies a significant functional breakdown in the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis, resulting in insufficient production of sex steroids, such as testosterone or estrogen, and/or impaired gamete production. This endocrine pathology can originate at the level of the hypothalamus, the pituitary gland, or the gonads themselves (testes or ovaries). The consequences are profound, affecting reproductive capacity, bone density, muscle mass, mood, and overall metabolic health and vitality.
