GNRHR Gene

Meaning

The gene responsible for encoding the Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone Receptor (GnRHR), a critical protein located on the surface of pituitary gonadotroph cells. This receptor is the binding site for GnRH, a hypothalamic hormone that controls the release of Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH). Mutations in the GNRHR gene can lead to deficiencies in gonadotropin secretion, often resulting in hypogonadotropic hypogonadism and associated infertility.
