GnRH Suppression

Meaning

GnRH Suppression is a therapeutic strategy that involves reducing or blocking the secretion or action of Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone (GnRH), a decapeptide hormone produced by the hypothalamus. This suppression consequently inhibits the downstream release of Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH) from the pituitary gland, which are the primary drivers of sex hormone production in the gonads. Clinically, this approach is used to manage hormone-sensitive conditions, such as prostate cancer, endometriosis, and precocious puberty, by creating a state of controlled, temporary hypogonadism.
