GnRH Stimulation

Meaning

GnRH stimulation refers to the clinical or physiological process of increasing the secretion of gonadotropins, specifically Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH), from the anterior pituitary gland through the action of Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone (GnRH). In clinical practice, a GnRH stimulation test involves administering exogenous GnRH to assess the functional reserve and responsiveness of the pituitary-gonadal axis. This diagnostic tool is crucial for distinguishing between central (hypothalamic or pituitary) and peripheral (gonadal) causes of reproductive or pubertal dysfunction.
