GnRH Receptor

Meaning

The GnRH Receptor, or Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone Receptor, is a crucial G-protein coupled receptor located on the surface of gonadotroph cells in the anterior pituitary gland. Its primary function is to bind Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone (GnRH), a decapeptide hormone released by the hypothalamus. This binding initiates a signaling cascade that controls the pulsatile secretion of the gonadotropins, Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH), which are central to reproductive and hormonal health.
