GnRH Receptor Desensitization

Meaning

GnRH Receptor Desensitization refers to the diminished responsiveness of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) receptors located on the pituitary gland’s gonadotroph cells following continuous or prolonged exposure to GnRH or its synthetic analogues. This cellular adaptation reduces the pituitary’s ability to secrete luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) in response to subsequent GnRH stimulation.
