GnRH Neurons

Meaning

GnRH Neurons, or Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone Neurons, are specialized neuroendocrine cells located primarily in the hypothalamus of the brain that serve as the master regulators of the reproductive axis. These neurons synthesize and secrete GnRH in a characteristic pulsatile fashion, which is the essential signal required to initiate and maintain the function of the entire hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis. Their proper function is critical for fertility, puberty, and the maintenance of sex hormone levels throughout life.
