GnRH Neuron Plasticity

Meaning

GnRH Neuron Plasticity refers to the remarkable capacity of Gonadotropin-releasing Hormone (GnRH) secreting neurons in the hypothalamus to dynamically alter their morphology, connectivity, and secretory patterns in response to internal and external physiological cues. This adaptability is critical for regulating the pulsatile release of GnRH, which, in turn, controls the entire reproductive axis, making it highly sensitive to metabolic status, stress, and sex steroid feedback. The structural and functional remodeling of these neurons is a key factor in pubertal onset, fertility regulation, and the cessation of reproductive function with age.
