GnRH Desensitization

Meaning

GnRH desensitization refers to a physiological state where the pituitary gland, after continuous exposure to gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) or its synthetic analogs, reduces its responsiveness. This diminished sensitivity leads to a significant decrease in the secretion of gonadotropins, luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), from the anterior pituitary. Ultimately, this suppression results in reduced production of sex steroids by the gonads.
