GnRH Antagonists

Meaning

GnRH Antagonists are a class of synthetic peptide medications that function by competitively binding to and blocking the Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone (GnRH) receptors located on the pituitary gland. This immediate blockade prevents the release of Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH), leading to a rapid and reversible suppression of sex steroid production in both men and women. They are clinically utilized to manage conditions sensitive to sex hormones. These agents offer a direct, non-flare inhibitory effect.
