GnRH Agonists

Meaning

GnRH Agonists are synthetic pharmaceutical compounds that structurally mimic the natural Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone (GnRH), a decapeptide produced in the hypothalamus. Clinically, these agents are utilized to initially stimulate, and subsequently suppress, the secretion of the pituitary gonadotropins, Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH). This controlled suppression, often achieved through continuous, non-pulsatile administration, is leveraged in the treatment of conditions such as prostate cancer, endometriosis, and precocious puberty.
