GnRH Agonist Side Effects

Meaning

GnRH Agonist side effects refer to the spectrum of predictable, dose-dependent, and often reversible adverse physiological reactions that arise from the therapeutic administration of Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone (GnRH) agonists. These agents are designed to induce a transient initial surge followed by a sustained downregulation and desensitization of pituitary GnRH receptors, leading to a profound suppression of sex hormone production. The resulting side effects, which include hot flashes, bone mineral density loss, and mood lability, are primarily the clinical consequences of this induced state of hypogonadism, or temporary chemical menopause/andropause.
