GnRH Agonist Effects

Meaning

Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone (GnRH) agonist effects refer to the physiological outcomes resulting from the administration of synthetic compounds that bind to and initially stimulate the GnRH receptors in the pituitary gland. Paradoxically, after this initial surge, continuous, non-pulsatile exposure to the agonist leads to the desensitization and downregulation of these receptors. This subsequent desensitization effectively suppresses the secretion of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), leading to a significant reduction in sex steroid production.
