GnRH Agonist

Meaning

A GnRH Agonist is a synthetic compound designed to mimic the natural gonadotropin-releasing hormone, GnRH, produced by the hypothalamus. While initially stimulating the pituitary gland, its continuous presence leads to a paradoxical desensitization and downregulation of GnRH receptors. This unique pharmacological action ultimately suppresses the release of gonadotropins, namely luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH).
