Glycemic Control Failure

Meaning

Glycemic Control Failure describes a pathological state where the body’s intricate homeostatic mechanisms, primarily involving the pancreatic beta cells and insulin sensitivity, are no longer capable of maintaining blood glucose concentrations within the normal physiological range. This persistent dysregulation, characterized by sustained hyperglycemia or pronounced glucose variability, signifies a breakdown in metabolic signaling and is a defining feature of pre-diabetes and overt Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. Clinically, this failure dramatically increases the risk of microvascular and macrovascular complications.
