GLUT-4 Translocation

Meaning

GLUT-4 translocation is a critical cellular process in glucose metabolism, involving the movement of the Glucose Transporter Type 4 (GLUT-4) protein from intracellular storage vesicles to the plasma membrane of muscle and fat cells. This movement is the primary mechanism by which insulin signals these tissues to rapidly absorb glucose from the bloodstream. Impairment of this translocation process is a hallmark of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes, directly impacting hormonal health.
