Glucose Uptake

Meaning

Glucose Uptake describes the essential cellular process by which circulating monosaccharide glucose is transported across the plasma membrane from the blood into tissues, predominantly skeletal muscle and adipocytes, for energy metabolism or storage. This process is the primary determinant of postprandial glycemic excursions and overall glucose homeostasis. Impaired uptake signifies a core defect in metabolic health, often associated with insulin resistance. We aim to maximize efficient uptake across all relevant tissues.
