Glucose Tolerance Oscillation

Meaning

Glucose tolerance oscillation refers to the natural, predictable variation in the body’s ability to effectively clear glucose from the bloodstream and maintain euglycemia throughout the 24-hour day, irrespective of meal composition. This physiological phenomenon dictates that glucose tolerance is typically highest in the morning and progressively declines in the afternoon and evening, a pattern driven by the circadian rhythm. A dampened or inverted oscillation can be an early indicator of metabolic dysfunction or pre-diabetes.
