Glucose Sensitivity

Meaning

Glucose Sensitivity describes the magnitude of the cellular response in peripheral tissues, notably skeletal muscle and adipose tissue, to a given concentration of circulating insulin. High sensitivity implies efficient glucose clearance from the bloodstream with minimal insulin signaling required. Conversely, reduced sensitivity, or insulin resistance, is a critical precursor to metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes pathology. We assess this metric to gauge metabolic health status.
