Glucose Partitioning Efficiency

Meaning

Glucose Partitioning Efficiency is a measure of the body’s ability to appropriately distribute circulating glucose following a meal, directing it toward storage (glycogen synthesis in muscle and liver) or immediate energy use, rather than shunting it toward fat storage (lipogenesis). High efficiency indicates excellent metabolic flexibility and insulin sensitivity, where skeletal muscle acts as the primary sink for glucose disposal. Declining efficiency is a hallmark of metabolic dysfunction and precedes conditions like insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes.
