Glucose Hypometabolism

Meaning

A state characterized by a pathologically reduced rate of glucose utilization, particularly pronounced in the brain, despite the presence of adequate circulating glucose levels in the bloodstream. This condition signifies a functional impairment in cellular energy production, as cells struggle to effectively take up or process glucose for their metabolic needs. It is a key feature observed in the early stages of neurodegenerative disorders and is often intrinsically linked to peripheral insulin resistance at the cellular level.
