Glucose Disposal Capacity

Meaning

This metric defines the efficiency and speed with which the body, primarily muscle, liver, and adipose tissue, can clear glucose from the bloodstream following a meal or an intravenous load. It is a critical indicator of metabolic health and insulin sensitivity. A high Glucose Disposal Capacity reflects optimal insulin signaling and robust cellular uptake, preventing prolonged periods of hyperglycemia which are detrimental to vascular and endocrine health. Impairment of this capacity is the physiological precursor to insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes.
