Glucocorticoids

Meaning

Glucocorticoids are a class of steroid hormones, naturally synthesized and secreted by the adrenal cortex, that are critically involved in regulating diverse physiological processes, including glucose metabolism, immune function, and the body’s adaptive response to stress. Cortisol is the principal endogenous glucocorticoid in humans, essential for maintaining blood pressure and modulating systemic inflammatory responses. Clinically, synthetic forms of glucocorticoids are widely prescribed for their potent anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive therapeutic effects.
