Glucocorticoid Cascade

Meaning

The Glucocorticoid Cascade describes the sequential activation of the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal (HPA) axis and the subsequent systemic effects initiated by the release of glucocorticoid hormones, predominantly cortisol, in response to physical or psychological stress. This complex chain reaction affects numerous physiological processes, including metabolism, inflammation, and immune surveillance. Clinically, chronic dysregulation of this cascade is a central factor in the pathophysiology of metabolic syndrome, chronic fatigue, and stress-related disorders.
