GLP-1 Resistance

Meaning

GLP-1 resistance is a state in which target tissues exhibit a reduced or impaired response to the action of Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), an incretin hormone secreted by the L-cells of the small intestine. This physiological blunting of effect diminishes GLP-1’s ability to stimulate glucose-dependent insulin secretion, slow gastric emptying, and promote satiety. Clinically, it is a key feature in the progression of type 2 diabetes and contributes to the dysregulation of glucose homeostasis and weight management.
