GLP-1 Receptor Sensitivity

Meaning

GLP-1 Receptor Sensitivity refers to the degree of responsiveness of target cells, particularly those in the pancreas, brain, and gut, to the binding of Glucagon-like Peptide-1 (GLP-1) or its pharmaceutical analogs. High sensitivity means a small amount of GLP-1 can elicit a strong physiological response, such as enhanced insulin secretion or delayed gastric emptying. Diminished sensitivity, often seen in conditions like Type 2 Diabetes, contributes to metabolic dysregulation and reduced efficacy of endogenous GLP-1 signaling.
