GLP-1 Agonist Secretion

Meaning

GLP-1 Agonist Secretion refers to the physiological release of Glucagon-like Peptide-1 (GLP-1), an incretin hormone secreted by enteroendocrine L-cells in the distal small intestine and colon in response to nutrient ingestion. This naturally occurring peptide acts as a potent agonist, stimulating insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells in a glucose-dependent manner. GLP-1 also slows gastric emptying and promotes satiety, making it a critical regulator of glucose homeostasis and body weight. Clinically, understanding and enhancing endogenous GLP-1 secretion is a strategy for improving metabolic health and managing type 2 diabetes.
