GLP-1

Meaning

GLP-1, or Glucagon-Like Peptide-1, is an incretin hormone, a naturally occurring peptide produced primarily by L-cells in the small intestine. This hormone is released into the bloodstream following the ingestion of nutrients, serving a critical function in the body’s metabolic regulation. Its principal action involves enhancing glucose-dependent insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells and concurrently suppressing glucagon release from alpha cells.
