Glomerulosclerosis

Meaning

A serious pathological condition characterized by the scarring or hardening (sclerosis) of the glomeruli, the tiny filtering units within the kidney’s nephrons. This progressive damage compromises the kidney’s ability to filter waste products from the blood effectively, leading to proteinuria and eventually chronic kidney disease. In the hormonal health context, it is often a long-term complication associated with metabolic disorders like poorly controlled diabetes and hypertension.
