Glomerular Hypertension

Meaning

A pathological condition characterized by abnormally elevated blood pressure specifically within the glomerular capillaries of the kidney, which are the primary filtration units. This sustained high pressure leads to hyperfiltration, causing mechanical stress and injury to the delicate glomerular structure, resulting in proteinuria and progressive nephron damage. It is a critical factor in the progression of chronic kidney disease, often seen in conditions like diabetes mellitus and systemic hypertension, both of which have significant endocrine components.
