Glial Cells

Meaning

Glial Cells are a diverse and abundant population of non-neuronal cells, including astrocytes, oligodendrocytes, and microglia, found throughout the central and peripheral nervous systems, providing essential structural, metabolic, and protective support to neurons. These cells are integral to maintaining the blood-brain barrier, regulating the chemical environment of the synapses, and facilitating immune surveillance within the neural tissue. Their proper function is intimately linked to neuroendocrine health, inflammation control, and cognitive performance.
