Glandular Tissue Recurrence

Meaning

Glandular tissue recurrence refers to the reappearance of a pathological condition, typically a tumor or malignancy, within the secretory or epithelial tissue of an endocrine gland or organ after a period of remission following primary treatment. This term is most frequently used in the context of breast or prostate cancer, where the recurrence specifically involves the glandular epithelial cells rather than the surrounding connective or stromal tissue. It signifies a failure of the initial therapeutic intervention to completely eradicate the hormone-sensitive malignant cell population. Clinically, it necessitates a reassessment of the patient’s hormonal and therapeutic strategy.
