GIPA

Meaning

GIPA, or Glucose-dependent Insulinotropic Polypeptide, is an incretin hormone secreted by enteroendocrine K cells in the small intestine. Its primary physiological action involves stimulating insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells in the presence of elevated blood glucose levels. This hormone plays a significant role in the body’s response to nutrient intake, particularly carbohydrates and fats.
