GIP Receptors

Meaning

GIP Receptors, or Glucose-dependent Insulinotropic Polypeptide Receptors (GIPR), are G protein-coupled receptors expressed primarily on the surface of pancreatic beta cells, as well as in adipose tissue and the brain. These receptors bind to the incretin hormone GIP, which is secreted by intestinal K cells following nutrient ingestion. Activation of GIPR is a fundamental component of the enteroinsular axis, significantly amplifying the glucose-stimulated release of insulin.
