GHS Secretagogues

Meaning

GHS Secretagogues are a class of compounds, both endogenous and synthetic, that function as Growth Hormone Secretagogues (GHS) by promoting the release of Growth Hormone (GH) from the pituitary gland. These agents act on the ghrelin receptor, also known as the GHS receptor (GHS-R1a), a distinct pathway from the hypothalamic GHRH. Their clinical utility lies in their ability to restore age-related decline in GH pulsatility, which is crucial for maintaining lean body mass, bone density, and metabolic homeostasis.
