GHS-R1a Receptors

Meaning

GHS-R1a Receptors, which stands for Growth Hormone Secretagogue Receptor type 1a, are high-affinity, G protein-coupled receptors that are primarily recognized as the functional receptor for the hormone ghrelin. These receptors are densely expressed in the hypothalamus and pituitary gland, central to their role in regulating the release of growth hormone. Beyond their endocrine function, they are also found in numerous peripheral tissues, where they mediate ghrelin’s diverse metabolic and appetitive effects. Their activity is crucial for energy homeostasis and somatotropic axis regulation.
