GHS-R

Meaning

GHS-R is the abbreviation for the Growth Hormone Secretagogue Receptor, a specific G protein-coupled receptor found in various tissues, most notably in the hypothalamus and pituitary gland. This receptor is the primary target for the hormone ghrelin, often referred to as the “hunger hormone,” and is instrumental in regulating the pulsatile release of growth hormone. The activity of GHS-R is therefore a critical node in the complex neuroendocrine network governing energy homeostasis, appetite, and somatic growth.
