GHRH Receptor Sensitivity

Meaning

GHRH Receptor Sensitivity refers to the degree of responsiveness of the Growth Hormone-Releasing Hormone receptor (GHRHR), located on somatotroph cells in the anterior pituitary gland, to its cognate ligand, GHRH. High sensitivity indicates that a small amount of GHRH can elicit a robust pulsatile release of Growth Hormone (GH), while low sensitivity suggests a blunted response. This metric is a key determinant of the efficiency of the somatotropic axis, which regulates tissue repair, metabolism, and overall longevity.
