GHRH Receptor Agonism

Meaning

The pharmacological action achieved when a substance binds to and activates the Growth Hormone-Releasing Hormone (GHRH) receptor, mimicking the effect of endogenous GHRH. This activation stimulates the anterior pituitary to release stored growth hormone (GH) in a pulsatile, physiological manner. Effective agonism is critical for therapeutic strategies aiming to restore or enhance somatotropic axis function, often seen in contexts of age-related GH decline or specific pituitary deficiencies. We are essentially signaling the pituitary to increase GH secretion naturally.
