GHRH-GH-IGF-1 Axis

Meaning

The GHRH-GH-IGF-1 Axis, or the Somatotropic Axis, is a fundamental neuroendocrine cascade that tightly regulates somatic growth, metabolism, and body composition throughout the entire lifespan. This system involves the sequential and coordinated action of three key hormones: Hypothalamic Growth Hormone-Releasing Hormone (GHRH), Pituitary Growth Hormone (GH), and Hepatic Insulin-like Growth Factor-1 (IGF-1). It is a classic and critical example of a hierarchical feedback loop in human physiology, maintaining systemic anabolic balance.
