GHRH-Arginine Test

Meaning

The GHRH-Arginine Test is a specific, dynamic endocrinological stimulation test utilized clinically to assess the functional capacity of the somatotropic axis, specifically the pituitary gland’s ability to secrete Growth Hormone (GH). This diagnostic procedure is considered a robust method for diagnosing Adult Growth Hormone Deficiency (AGHD) because it bypasses the hypothalamus, directly stimulating the pituitary somatotrophs. It involves the sequential administration of Growth Hormone-Releasing Hormone (GHRH) and the amino acid Arginine, followed by serial measurements of GH levels.
