GHRH Antagonists

Meaning

GHRH Antagonists are a class of synthetic or modified peptide compounds engineered to block the action of the body’s native Growth Hormone-Releasing Hormone (GHRH). These pharmaceutical agents competitively bind to the GHRH receptors located on the somatotroph cells of the anterior pituitary gland. By occupying these receptors, the antagonists prevent the endogenous GHRH from stimulating the release of growth hormone (GH). Their primary clinical utility is in conditions characterized by excessive GH production, such as acromegaly, or in certain hormone-sensitive cancers.
