GHRH Agonism

Meaning

GHRH Agonism describes the pharmacological action of a compound that binds to and activates the Growth Hormone-Releasing Hormone (GHRH) receptor, primarily located in the anterior pituitary gland. This activation stimulates the pulsatile and natural release of endogenous Growth Hormone (GH) from somatotroph cells. Unlike direct GH administration, GHRH agonists promote a more physiological pattern of GH secretion, which is crucial for maintaining the integrity of the hypothalamic-pituitary-somatotropic axis. This mechanism is therapeutically utilized to enhance tissue repair, improve body composition, and support metabolic health in cases of age-related GH decline.
