Ghrelin Mimetics

Meaning

Ghrelin Mimetics are a class of pharmaceutical or synthetic compounds designed to mimic the action of the endogenous hormone ghrelin, often referred to as the “hunger hormone.” These agents bind to and activate the ghrelin receptor (Growth Hormone Secretagogue Receptor, GHSR-1a), primarily stimulating the release of Growth Hormone (GH) from the pituitary gland. Clinically, they are explored for their potential in treating conditions involving cachexia, growth hormone deficiency, and appetite stimulation in catabolic states.
