GHR Expression

Meaning

GHR Expression refers to the process by which the gene encoding the Growth Hormone Receptor (GHR) is transcribed into messenger RNA and subsequently translated into the functional GHR protein, which is embedded in the cell membrane. The density and location of these receptors on target cells, particularly hepatocytes and adipocytes, determine the tissue’s responsiveness to circulating Growth Hormone. Clinically, the regulation of GHR expression is a critical determinant of systemic IGF-1 levels and overall somatotropic axis function. Variability in expression can account for individual differences in GH response.
