GHR Antagonist

Meaning

A GHR Antagonist is a pharmacological agent designed to block or inhibit the action of the Growth Hormone Receptor (GHR) on target cells. By binding to the receptor without activating the downstream signaling cascade, these molecules effectively prevent endogenous Growth Hormone (GH) from exerting its biological effects. Clinically, GHR antagonists are utilized primarily in the management of conditions characterized by excessive GH action, such as acromegaly, to normalize circulating levels of Insulin-like Growth Factor-1 (IGF-1) and mitigate the associated adverse physiological changes.
