GH1 Gene

Meaning

The GH1 gene is the specific genetic locus in human DNA that provides the blueprint for synthesizing the primary form of human growth hormone, also known as somatotropin. This gene is located on chromosome 17 and is critically important for the systemic regulation of growth, cellular reproduction, and intermediary metabolism throughout an individual’s entire lifespan. Pathogenic mutations or deletions within the GH1 gene are a well-known cause of isolated growth hormone deficiency, leading to impaired growth and altered body composition.
