GH Sensitivity

Meaning

GH Sensitivity refers to the degree of biological responsiveness exhibited by target tissues, most notably the liver, to the circulating concentration of Growth Hormone (GH) secreted by the anterior pituitary gland. This sensitivity is a critical determinant of the overall functional status of the somatotropic axis, influencing the downstream production of Insulin-like Growth Factor-1 (IGF-1). Adequate GH sensitivity is essential for maintaining anabolic processes, regulating body composition, and supporting metabolic health throughout the lifespan. Clinical assessment of this parameter is often more informative than simply measuring basal GH levels, which are pulsatile in nature.
